The timeless appeal of The Glenlivet has made it the biggest selling 12 Year Old single malt whisky in the United States today. The smooth flavour and distinct taste has spread the reputation of The Glenlivet far and wide as the definitive single malt whisky – prized by whisky-lovers across the generations – truly the single malt that started it all. The Glenlivet is a story of pride, passion and perfection – inspired by a heritage that spans seven generations of distillers from the Smith family.
Whisky-lovers travel from around the world to experience a tasting at The Glenlivet – licensed by founder George Smith as the first legal distillery in Scotland in the early 19th century. Every elegant long-necked bottle bears his signature on the parchment label – reflecting his conviction that only the best would do.
The only whisky allowed to be called ‘The Glenlivet’ is the most famous Speyside single malt of all. It’s named after the most legendary whisky-making glen in Scotland – the highly-prized source of the pure highland water that has supplied the distillery since the early 1800s. Many attribute the unique character of The Glenlivet to the mineral-rich water that bubbles to the surface from an underground spring.
Every bottle of the whisky known as ‘The Single Malt that started it all’ is made at the landmark Glenlivet distillery. The Glenlivet is fermented in large Oregon pine vats and distilled in the tall, distinct copper potstills unique to the Glenlivet distillery which create the distinctive, sweet, fruity aromas of the new spirit. The spirit is matured in handcrafted white oak casks in stone warehouses for 12 years or more to produce a richly flavoured single malt whisky of great character, complexity and subtlety.
The pioneering spirit inspired by founder George Smith runs through the history of The Glenlivet. The Glenlivet was named ‘Distillery of the Year’ at the San Francisco World Sprits Competition in 2009. Sweeping the awards, The Glenlivet 18 Year Old won a Double Gold and The Glenlivet 15 Year Old and The Glenlivet 21 Year Old both won Gold Medals.
All five age expressions of The Glenlivet (the 12, 15, 16, 18 and 21 Year Old are now available in South Africa – including the Nadurra 16 Year Old, the rising star of The Glenlivet range.
