The culture of house/home and the improvement of these - very likely the most important purchase(s) of any person's life - is a burgeoning and escalating fascination on a global basis. The era of the TV chef is here to stay and everyday cooking programmes encourage us to entertain at home, where kitchen design is creating working spaces which are an integral part of living/dining areas. Manufacturers across the board are in sync in further creating aesthetic concepts which fit in with 'the total look.'

South Africa, with a multi-cultural society which has emerged tentatively from the chrysalis of the dark apartheid years into the shining light of democracy, is a unique country in countless ways. Sure, there is still much to do in bringing the majority of its population to a level of residential modernity enjoyed by counterparts in the US and Europe, but the seeds are there.
