Almost half a century ago, I went to college in Liverpool with a Hong Kong Chinese chap whose family was then immensely wealthy. He is now the patriaiarch and he’s pushed the financial envelope all the way. What does he drive, a Rolls or Bentley? No, a top-of-the-range Lexus sedan.
Lexus introduced the IS250C to South Africa in mid-November 2009. The new Lexus coupé-convertible became the luxury brand’s second open-top product alongside the SC430; reviewed in Habitat in issue 211 May / June 2009.
This latest addition to the Lexus range removes the lid from the IS250 sedan, a proven seller and undoubtedly good value for money in its German-dominated class. Yet, it’s not merely the ‘simple matter’ of a retractable hardtop, changes to the IS are significant in creating its convertible peer.
