That occasion was the Concorso d’Eleganza at Villa d’Este on Lake Como and I was there again in late May as part of the BMW EuroStyle Tour. As is always the case, the occasion was a feast of luxury, showcasing collectible motoring exotica from concept cars to classical beauties of a bygone age. It’s an event that was established back in 1929 for those with unfolded money, who spend 300 odd weeks of the year polishing and perfecting their prize possessions before exhibiting them at Pebble Beach in the US and at Concorso d’Eleganza. Add to this the evocative and picturesque Lake Como, the Riva and J-Craft motor yachts and memorable high-echelon Italian cuisine. Check out the next issue on sale 1st September for a full report on some of Italy’s finest.
The Issue is Design
We’ve gone global once again with a stunning apartment in Mexico City and a London penthouse. Both very high-end projects; the Mexico City job is the work of South African-born Habitat US East Coast correspondent Geoffrey Bradfield, now a celebrated international design icon. Local projects: on the Cape Atlantic Coast and in Atholl, Sandton complete the interior design content and handsomely illustrate South African expertise in contemporary decoration and design.
Ground Rules and Facts of Light are annual FOCUS features showcasing cutting-edge design in flooring and lighting. There is plenty to read and relish in this winter-orientated Habitat, so relax in a warm place and enjoy it. Let me know what you feel about this issue, and let’s hope that the power stays on.
