PUBLISHER'S MESSAGE
Favourable Destination?
18 JUNE 2010
|
Having just sent the latest issue to the printer - No. 218 July / August - I’m thinking yet again about the Fifa World Cup and what it could have/ might have / will bring to this country.
SA is surviving the recession better than most European (Western) countries and the US (in the main) and the Fifa vent should introduce the diverse beauty of SA to at least a couple of hundred thousand people (it should have been half a million). Will they return, will they see SA as a favourable destination ongoing? What can we do to entice them back? Certainly, our property sector - and the service industries of design / décor / lifestyle - are sophisticated enough. Might we benefit long-term? This depends in my estimation on the final impression that these visitors leave with; so far so good, vuvuzela notwithstanding. Look out for the next issue - on sale on 1st July - and the two FOCUS features on FLOORING and LIGHTING. There’s valuable info therein - good advice and great images - so that you can visualize just how to handle these key design elements.

I, for one am very proud to call myself South African. As official host/hostess of the FIFA World Cup 2010, I feel we have welcomed the world with warmth and friendliness. We have outdone ourselves and proven that although Africa is riddled with problems, we have a lot of hidden treasures to showcase the world. It is sure to be ongoing as the globe warms up to our African sun, culture and economy. Well done South Africa!

I had been waiting to drive an R8 since the original launch, but to no avail. Yet the more recently launched V10 was obviously the ultimate and it finally arrived in R-tronic configuration. It’s a supercar in every respect and truly rates very high, being among the best cars I’ve ever driven.
