A classic wine brand with a long and illustrious heritage, Zonnebloem has won many awards over the years. From the vineyard to the cellar, timeless tradition goes into the Zonnebloem collection of fine red wines. Winemaking at Zonnebloem is a team effort. Every wine exemplifies the skills and meticulous craftsmanship of Zonnebloem’s acclaimed viticulturist, cellar master and winemakers who nurture the wines to perfection.
Continuing the tradition is new cellar master, Deon Boshoff, who took over the reins of this renowned Stellenbosch cellar in 2010. He has worked his way to the top since joining Zonnebloem as an assistant winemaker eight years ago. He comments: ‘I believe in adding value to every step of the winemaking process, ensuring wines of consistent quality at every level. I want to ensure satisfaction every
time a bottle of Zonnebloem is opened.’
Deon’s dedication has earned Zonnebloem prestigious awards at home and abroad. He won the Old Mutual Trophy for the Best White Wine Overall and Best Semillon for his 2007 Zonnebloem Semillon Limited Edition. He is ably assisted by red winemaker Bonny van Niekerk, who scooped a Best in Class gold medal with her opulent Zonnebloem Shiraz Mourvèdre Viognier 2006 at the prestigious International Wine & Spirit Competition in London in 2009.
Ms van Niekerk is a dynamic young winemaker – trained in Stellenbosch, Germany and California – and is the specialist red winemaker at Zonnebloem.
