PUBLISHER'S MESSAGE
Somewhere Over the Rainbow
7 JUNE 2010
|
With the 2010 Soccer World Cup upon us – and two epic rugby matches played in Orlando Stadium, Soweto in May – the patriotic unity among South Africans is likely at an all time high, since the post-Mandela election period.
There are mutters however, of the over-budget costs of the Fifa event, the massive profits to various organizing committees; the graft, corruption and personal enrichment of a fortunate few. Where do we go from here? Only time will tell; but the post-Fifa climate should be an indication. The enormous cost of the event will hopefully be offset by the positive publicity that this country should receive on a global scale. This could be of huge benefit to the property industry and its peers: interior decoration / design and the industries that support the sector. I have always believed that South Africa is a best-kept secret and that Cape Town is destined to become the Hong Kong of Africa; some might even see at such currently. Certainly, the creative skills of South Africans are burgeoning, there is a feeling of emergence, of recognition; our architects, designers, decorators, artisans and artists are gaining international recognition. Let’s hope the country as a whole can do the same.

I had been waiting to drive an R8 since the original launch, but to no avail. Yet the more recently launched V10 was obviously the ultimate and it finally arrived in R-tronic configuration. It’s a supercar in every respect and truly rates very high, being among the best cars I’ve ever driven.
