Media 10, the creators of leading global design shows such as Design Shanghai and Clerkenwell Design Week, are launching Design Joburg at the Sandton Convention Centre.

Showcasing the very best of both international and local design, the show will run from 12 to 14 May 2017, transforming the Sandton Convention Centre into Johannesburg’s most covetable and inspiring design destination.

Design Joburg highlights will include alluring room-sets, never before seen collaborative exhibits, uniquely curated installations and features by local and international industry stalwarts.

Besides the local design focus, Media 10 will be drawing on their access to international trends and innovators to offer a uniquely global perspective for both industry and public.

ROOMS ON VIEW

Media 10 is thrilled to announce the return of South Africa’s benchmark decorating show, Rooms On View. Following an absence of a few years, Rooms on View will be incorporated into Design Joburg’s stellar lineup of exhibits. Under the direction of celebrated South African interior designer Sumari Krige, this reinvigorated show-within-a-show will showcase the very latest in trending décor at Design Joburg.

“Rooms on View has developed a wonderful reputation over many years and will continue to play an important role in showcasing the best décor and design”, says Sumari Krige.

COLLABORATION

Collaboration will be an integral part of Design Joburg. The collaborative focus will be underscored with curated feature exhibits – under the creative direction of two leading local designers – bringing together leading architects and interior designers with top drawer brands, local artisans and suppliers. These compelling stands will offer both trade and consumer visitors real take-home inspiration, solutions and resources.

CREATIVE  DIRECTION

Media 10 are thrilled to announce the appointment of Andrea Kleinloog and Megan Hesse, co-owners of Anatomy Design and HK Studio, as Creative Directors of the show. This dynamic design duo’s role will be to spearhead the creation of the show’s unique proposition. Employing their unprecedented experience, Andrea and Megan will steer this wholly collaborative and integrated approach to craft a show that will be the vanguard of design in South Africa.

“Our collaborative approach will combine interesting and resourceful exhibits, cutting-edge technology and the best craftsmanship. We want to create a refreshing and rousing show where visitors, the public and industry alike, can find inspiration, suppliers and solutions all in one space,” says Andrea Kleinloog, adding “We want to break the mould of a traditional expo and create a live Pinterest board.”

COLLABORATIVE ROOMSETS

Design Joburg, featuring Rooms on View, is doing collaborations like never before. Conjuring curated feature exhibits that pair some of SA’s leading lights in design with the country’s top décor and design brands, Design Joburg is bringing a novel concept to the current exhibition arena. This fresh approach will see several brands sharing the same stage. Brands include the likes of Tempur, True Design, JVB Furniture Collection, Caesarstone, Forest Flooring, Optima Kitchens, St Leger & Viney, Generation Design, Newport Lighting and Beauty Fires, among others.

The designers and their partnered brands will be tasked with creating a unique feature exhibit within their given theme. These immersive room sets will offer the visitor layered yet holistic take-home inspiration.

An added benefit to the Collaborative Roomsets features is a partnership with the CCDI (Cape Craft and Design Institute), who will be teaming these same designers up with leading crafters and artisans to bring an inspired decorative approach to the room sets.

DARLINGS OF LOCAL DESIGN

A standout crowd of local designers has been selected for the Darlings of Local Design feature. A veritable who’s who of SA talent will be showing off their very latest products with multi-disciplinary artist Elonah O’Neil guiding visitors through this feature with her enchanting works of art. Elonah’s work is recognisable from her magical paper installations at Tasha’s restaurants.

The lineup of designers include the likes of Haldane Martin, Heather Moore of Skinny laMinx, Andile Dyalvane and Zizipho Poswa of Imiso Ceramics, Andrew Dominic, Mlondolozi Hempe from Umongoo, Mema Design, Minima Design, Louw Roets and Laurie Wiid, as well as Johannesburg design studios Lemon, Studio 19 and Aureum Design. From Durban, we have designers Gareth Henderson and Douglas & Douglas, with more to be confirmed.

EAT & DRINK

With Pierre Jourdan as the Design Joburg featuring Rooms on View associate sponsor, visitors will have the very best selection of drinks available to them.

An enticing lineup of bars and culinary outlets await the parched and hungry, including our main feature restaurant and bar entitled ‘A Walk In The Park’, which is a double play on the aesthetic theme and the organisers aim to provide a seamless and queue-less experience for weary visitors.

Design Joburg takes place at the Sandton Convention Centre, from 12-14 May 2017.
