Headquartered in Castellón, Spain, TheSize was founded in 2009 with the objective of creating a new material category suitable for exterior and interior construction: kitchen and bath countertops, furnishings, flooring and facades. In 2011, the Neolith® brand was launched as high-end sintered stone with revolutionary physical and technical features. A term meaning “new stone,” Neolith® combines the best natural raw materials (clays, feldspar, silica and natural mineral oxides) with state-of-the-art technology to create a high-tech slab. This was the outcome of the latest research and development processes in the industry.
Neolith®’s product is created through the company’s proprietary sinterization technology, exposing minerals and other raw materials to extremely high pressure and temperature (over 1200 degrees Celsius/2200 degrees Fahrenheit), resembling the way natural stone forms over thousands of years, in just hours. The process gives the product outstanding physical and mechanical properties in terms of compaction, resistance and durability.
Neolith® has near-zero porosity, making the product hygienic, stain resistant, easy to clean and impervious to chemicals. The product is also wear, scratch, heat resistant and its colours, being natural base, do not vary when exposed to UV rays. Additionally, Neolith® is lightweight and easy to install.
The demand for Neolith® Sintered Stone has grown exponentially since the opening of the factory in Castellón. This led to the installation of a third production line, which has started production at the beginning of September 2016.
The third production line will enable Neolith® to provide its customers with the thickest slabs available in the market, using the latest generation of technology. While the first line produces 3600x1200mm with a thickness of 3mm, the second line allows for 6mm which can be used for flooring, interior, and exterior cladding in 3200x1500mm and the third will be able to offer a 3200×1600 format with a thickness of 12mm and 20mm (and theoretically up to 30mm). Assigning a special thickness to each of the lines will double the factory’s total production capacity. With the implementation of a third production line, an even greater variety of material formats will be available to meet the needs of the costumers.
Neolith® Nero Marquina by TheSize has won the prestigious Red Dot Award: Product Design 2017 in the Materials and Surfaces category. Inspired by marble from Spain, the trendy décor stood out to the judges because of the outstanding technical skills applied to achieve a design that perfectly replicates the natural stone.
Nero Marquina is a testament to the technical expertise present at TheSize. To achieve bright white veining on a pure black backdrop is a task testing enough on paper, but for a Sintered Stone slab, a new technical avenue was entered. For this challenge, TheSize has developed an exclusive technique to achieve the stark contrast and distinct fine lines. Available in Polished and Silk finishes and in 6mm and 12mm thicknesses, it is ideal for floors, walls, bathroom and kitchen worktops, as well as furniture. Furthermore, Nero Marquina can also be book-matched to create mirror-like designs.
Nero Marquina is a result of Neolith’s® innovative Digital Design (NDD) decoration technique. This system has revolutionised Neolith® patterns and is pushing the boundaries of what colours and textures are possible to create on Sintered Stone.
Having previously won their first Red Dot Award in 2015, TheSize is honoured to receive the important industry accolade for the second time. “We tirelessly invest in our research and development, trying to stay ahead of our industry by providing the latest design technologies and creating décors to rival the real deal”, says Mar Esteve, Marketing Director, TheSize. We have come a long way since winning the award in 2015, and will continue to push the boundaries of design.”
