We’ve been around for 39 years. Habitat was first published in March 1973 and there have been more than a few gradients on our graph – both upside and downside – in those almost four decades.

Habitat is 38 years old plus and – apart from a few cosmetic changes – the cover has remained the same for the past decade, albeit the internal content not so.

If Malema, Mass Action and Mediocrity eventually get too much there is always dear old Europe to consider, albeit currently not so healthy financially.

At the time of writing it’s topping out at around 14°C in Johannesburg with night-time / early morning chills of -2°C. Cold indeed, colder than last year and not auguring well for Eskom’s alleged dwindling supply of power to SA, (they’re still selling it to neigbouring states incidentally). The threat of load-shedding looms.

It’s been said that design need not invoke grand gestures or sweeping statements to be successful. Instead it can focus on the smaller things in life. By this I take it to mean that fine design is in the detailing – not necessarily the larger elements.

I’m not one generally into introspection but… 2010 is no more, and what a year it was for SA. Actually what a year?
