For this year’s Cape Wine Auction (held in February 2016), the House of Bisquit created a lot prize of a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to discover the wonders of Le Château Bisquit. Ken and Jane Truter were the lucky couple and were the highest bidders on the day, contributing R350 000 to the overall R15-million that was raised  – every cent, without offset or deductions, goes to 19 non-governmental organisations in the Cape Winelands that are dedicated to furthering education, training and life skills.

The idea behind the unique L’Origine bottle was to create something that has never been seen before in the wine and spirits industry; a project that would show Bisquit connoisseurs and the rest of world that the House of Bisquit is determined to simultaneously reconnect with its roots and explore the future.

L’Origine, as its French name suggests, focuses on the roots of the Bisquit brand as well as the brand’s vision to combine contemporary elements into its tradition. The eggshell shaped glass bottle symbolises the birth of the concept, and the distinct white in colour highlights the newer elements of simplicity, purity and modernism. The white casing was custom-made by acclaimed French trunk designer Maltier le Malletier, using the finest of French leather. The final touch is the rich and rare cognac blend skilfully handcrafted by Bisquit’s Maître de Chai (cellar master), Denis Lahouratate. Together the elements represent a union of Bisquit Cognac’s tradition (the craftsmanship of the rich and rare cognac blend) with the audacious and new contemporary vision of the Maison.
