Taking place from 8-12 August 2018, 100% Design South Africa continues to set an industry benchmark due to its stellar line-up of feature designers and curated displays set alongside the country’s leading design brands. This award-winning trade show is co-located with Decorex Joburg and can be found in Hall 1 at the Gallagher Convention Centre over the Women’s Day long weekend. 100% Design South Africa was named the AAXO ROAR Awards Winner of Best Trade & Consumer Exhibition (under 6000 sqm) in 2017 and 2016, making it the must-see event of the local design calendar!

100% Design South Africa is expertly curated by a formidable duo of design industry influencers and activists, Cathy O’Clery and Laurence Brick, who are the directors of Platform Creative Agency. Brick and O’Clery are the masterminds behind the unique content offering of the show. The show is managed by top events company, Reed Exhibitions, who services over 40 industry sectors with a host of trade and consumer events worldwide.

This year, internationally renowned local ceramicist Andile Dylvane is the esteemed Feature Designer of the Year. Dylvane – who is one of South Africa’s hottest design exports – is working on a solo presentation of 100 beautiful bowls which will be launched at 100% Design South Africa 2018.

New to 100% Design South Africa is the 100% Apartment feature, created by Mother City Hardware in collaboration with whatiftheworld gallery. This creative team is behind the stylish new Mother City co-working space, Tiny Empire in Cape Town and will be creating a contemporary urban apartment full of great furniture, homeware and contemporary art.

The Designing in Wood feature is curated by O Clery and will showcase the craft and skills that go into creating wooden furniture and accessories, from a traditional woodturning technique like bodging to complicated joinery and new technologies.

Award-winning furniture designers Houtlander are creating the concept for the 100% Design Café – an annual fixture that is always the buzzing heart of the show.

Another firm favourite, 100% Office will once again feature at the 2018 event. Interior Designer Alice Hutton of Joburg-based firm O & Co, who is lead designer behind many projects for Investec worldwide, will bring the 100% Office concept to life. 100% Office joins new workplace focus, the Agile Workspace curated by Design Build Manage, which looks at the latest shifts in office design, including co-working and mobile offices, to expand on 100% Design South Africa’s already substantial commercial design offering.

The Fabric & Wallpaper Gallery, which had its debut at the 2017 event, returns to the show. Top fabric houses and wallpaper lines will delight visitors with their latest colourways and textures, which are carefully edited into a cohesive and pleasing display.

An annual fixture, the PPC Imaginarium’s nationwide travelling exhibition will bring the latest crop of emerging creatives to the show. Expect innovative works in a range of disciplines, all exploring the medium of cement.

100% Design South Africa is invested in uplifting the local design industry, and to this end, supports emerging talent. The Young Gauteng section will identify Gauteng’s next crop of creatives, while 100% Talent is specifically aimed at introducing works by local designers who are not yet household names.

Each year, the show’s key feature displays do not only form part of the annual attractions but are intended to stimulate and inspire the industry as a whole. In addition, the show boasts over 130 individual exhibition stands and pavilions. It is the largest exhibition platform for contemporary high-end design on the continent and is an ideal sourcing ground for both interior design professionals and private individuals.

“This year’s show purposefully reflects the range of design possibilities that both the design savvy consumer and the trade can draw on, for both inspiration and product sourcing for interior design projects. 100% Design South Africa’s Business Matchmaking program also facilitates an easy interaction between trade and exhibitors,” concludes Sandra Jardim, the General Manager of 100% Design South Africa.
