Art.b Gallery, the Arts Association of Bellville, will present Diverse Triumvirate with Willie Bester, Eris Silke and Fanie Scholtz from Wednesday, 18 September to Saturday, 5 October 2019. Curated by Fanie Scholtz, the exhibition promises to revitalise art lovers’ interest and support.

Says artist and curator Fanie Scholtz: “I’m so excited to be part of this exquisite and one-of-a-kind exhibition. Willie Bester’s creative journey spans almost his entire life. He is regarded as one of South Africa’s most important resistance artists with his unique style and uninhibited ideas. He is known for incorporating recycled material into his paintings, assemblages and sculpture, usually commenting on the political injustices and human rights issues of the day. He is a passionate believer in dignity and equality for all humanity, and it’s always clear to see in his art. ”

Scholtz continues that Eris Silke Eris was born in Hungary and grew up in Israel. “She’s a self-taught artist and has been painting since the age of five. She has been practicing as a professional artist for forty years and finds that it’s never been easy to meaningfully connect with people. Her paintings are her way of expressing herself. As she says: ‘Expressing the ‘real’ me’.”

Born in the Karoo town of Beaufort West, Scholtz has also been drawing and painting from an early age. Now living in Durbanville, he is inspired by his surrounding landscapes, be it their farm near Sutherland in the Tankwa Karoo or the sea and mountains at Scarborough. “My preferred media is oil and acrylic. I spend a lot of quiet time on our farm, constantly looking for new ways to capture the stretched out landscape of the Karoo, which I love.”

Scholtz concludes: “Diverse Triumvirate refers to our diversity as well as the fact that we are three artists showcasing our very different range of works in one space at the same time. It promises to be one of the most exciting and interesting exhibitions of the year.”

Exhibition Opens: 18 September 2019; 6:30 for 7pm
Exhibition Closes: 5 October 2019
Venue: Art.b Gallery, Bellville Library Centre, Carel van Aswegen Rd, Bellville.
