Designed by Oksana Salberg-Vachnadze, from the prestigious O2 Design Moscow Studio, this exceptional residential project earned the International Property Award in the Apartment Interior Design category. Its owners are jazz aficionados.

The clients asked the designer to decorate their apartment in a prestigious residential complex in Moscow, near Sokolniki Park. They wanted an interior with a modern and yet established signature; and to achieve this she created a monochromatic colour palette, to which the owners subsequently requested that accent colours be added.

The result encapsulates a striking spectrum, stylish furniture and impressive contemporary artwork. The apartment’s planning comprises three areas: a large living room adjoining a space that combines kitchen and dining room, plus two bedrooms – a master suite and second bedroom for the owners’ daughter.

The Botti chandelier is the perfect mid-century lighting design, and is a tribute to jazz. Its structure embodies details of wind instruments and showcases high quality, handmade craftsmanship that is a suitable match for the art deco table lamps.

The sinuous lines of the Boca do Lobo console emphasise its elegant character. The handcrafted structure is made of mahogany with a base in high gloss, black lacquer and a top coated in polished brass.

A combination of the neoclassical style and the colour white served as the starting point for this interior. White cornice mouldings create an effective contrast to colourful modern furniture and add a certain cultural context. Such an interior may well have been found in any European capital; particularly Paris. French allure is effortlessly noticeable in the boiserie of the walls: the wood panelling / carved and painted woodwork.

Apart from the sumptuous shell, key to success here was luxurious and striking, internationally renowned furniture, upholstery, lighting and accessories from Covet House. Brands such as Boca do Lobo, DelightFULL, Brabbu, Koket, Maison Valentina, Circu, Luxxu, Essential Home, Rug Society, Pullcast and Foogo strike gold and perfectly complement every detail of the overall aesthetic and architecture of the apartment.

In the entrance hall, one wall and the door are finished with mirrors, which succeeds in adding spatial dimension and light. A textural focal point is a wooden console, which was designed by Oksana Salberg- Vachnadze. Above, customised Galliano wall lamps create the final accent for the aesthetic of the hall and their minimalist design coordinates perfectly with the geometric patterns of the console and the artwork. Made of steel, these luminaires emit a unique effect cast through their pipes.

The kitchen is an integral part of the multiliving space and features a breakfast area. The bright yellow of the chairs and the rich deep blue of the drapes are part of the accent palette throughout this apartment. Splashes of red, green and yellow charge an energising and focused mood to the reading nook.

The kitchen island is stylistically neutral in colour and is an interior that combines ecological motives with luxury, designed deliberately to not dominate the open-plan living / dining / kitchen area. The breakfast table is equally understated and laconic; the single bright accent being the yellow chairs.

In the living room area, the palette features bright accents that create focal attention against the white background. A little provocative, with an eclectic signature, this living space illustrates how perfectly the colours of the modern movement can coordinate with contemporary decoration.

Adjacent is the equally masterful dining room; a perfect symbiosis of styles and colours, this single space is divided into two areas by a console with art deco table lamps. An unusual chandelier, contemporary artwork and velvet curtains create an atmosphere of aristocratic chic that is très Parisien.

And there is more. The wall and ceiling mouldings and chevron parquet flooring were inspired by the City of Light. As a foil, a Venetian mirror and contemporary console are one of several examples of how effortlessly objects coexist in this interior; this handmade mirror was made with a rare, almost lost technique of mirror carving. It’s a unique objet d’art to be passed down to the next generation.

The bedroom’s teal velvet fabrics and teal wall panel suggest bold luxury that’s complemented by the romantic and formal royal blue, extra-length, goblet pleated curtains that pool on the floor. The bathroom features deliberate luxury: a marble panel, black freestanding bathtub that reflects the black and white chevron floor pattern. Sympathetic accessories complete the picture.

Accent colours and materials used throughout this apartment work effectively with the white shell and patterned floor installations. The result is both comfortable and sophisticated and, as such, showcases subtle eclecticism.
