For its third instalment, Media 10’s Design Joburg, featuring Rooms on View presented by Sanlam Private Wealth, is thrilled to announce the 9 designers set to transform the Sandton Convention Centre into the nucleus of decor and design on the African continent.
As a signature initiative of the show, the CoLabs are once again set to inspire visitors with this stellar cast of designers teaming up with a number of the country’s leading brands to create captivating room sets.

With the standard of design increasing and the pull to Design Joburg reaching an overwhelming strength, visitors and exhibitors are especially anticipating the allure of the shows CoLab features.

Tuami Zulu (Proportion Studio of Design)
Pushing the boundaries with his exploration of space and form, Tuami’s interest lies in the relationship between people and spaces, line and form. His highly sculptural bench, inspired by the form of a dancer in flight, earned him an award from Germany’s Parkett Dietrich International Benchmark competition and his mentorship with Studio A earlier this year resulted in a stand that visitors talk about to this day.
Noks Nxumalo (Hush Interiors)
Noks’ interiors are defined by her penchant for refined and contemporary luxury design. Focused on both residential and commercial projects, she works with a string of top drawer clients, one of them a Swazi royal, for whom she designed a boutique hotel. That her younger brother is interior designer Donald Nxumalo speaks volumes of the design DNA in her family. Look out for her upcoming range of furniture and homeware under the banner Hush La Maison.
Wendy Douglas (Douglas & Douglas)
This Durban designer’s studio produces furniture and interiors that the press has lapped up. She’s all about creating personal, functional spaces that reflect the client’s style and feature a mix of natural materials and textures as well as dark colours like black. The brand’s Carter Drinks cabinet drew in the crowds with its copper front and crimson interior when it launched at Design Joburg’s inaugural show.
Lindie Ferreira
Creativity oozes from Lindie Ferreira’s pores. Once the owner of celebrated clothing label Marion and Lindie, this fashion designer has turned her gaze to interior design. Lindie’s love of pieces with provenance is what sets her apart and her collaboration with Miller’s Antiques at last year’s fair was no exception. This year she’ll be the leading the charge with her very own CoLab feature.
Julia Day (Generation)
Synonymous with landmark international design brands, Julia’s Hyde Park store Generation imports a selection of the best furniture and accessories from global design heavyweights like De Padova and Seletti. Julia also designs interiors marked for their understated luxury and simplicity using the very best quality pieces. She set the bar high with her 2017 Design Joburg collab with architect Joe van Rooyen entitled Sample Library and 2019 should be no different.
Nelson Kubheka (Ommni Design)
With nearly a decade of experience and a glut of African projects under his belt, Joburg based Nelson Kubheka creates upscale interiors and spacial solutions for residential, commercial and hospitality clients. Earlier this year at Design Joburg he caused a stir with his sophisticated, mineral rich bathroom for Kohler, which saw a fresh take on African inspired glamour with lashings of black and brass. His bathroom’s graphic Bogolan wallpaper was such a hit, it’s now available to order.
Andrea Graff
This Cape Town interior designer has spent more than two decades honing her skill in the residential interiors market. Andrea’s spaces, from sophisticated Bantry Bay apartments to luxe Constantia homes, all convey her respect for tradition and love of eclecticism. Her work is dispersed along the Cape coastline and appears as far away as Los Angeles. Colour, pattern and the occasional style mash up are what give her interiors expression.
Dylan Thomaz
Thanks to an impressive background in visual merchandising, Dylan’s many interior design projects tell an intimate story of who their clients are. Equal parts curation and design, Dylan has a knack for creating layered spaces injected with depth and character and an undercurrent of classicism. While his client list is long and its addresses span the globe, this will be Dylan’s debut at Design Joburg.
Fanie van Zyl (FVZ Studio)
Last year Fanie created the show’s slick and sophisticated press lounge with moulded wall panels, iconic furniture pieces and a cool klompie brick floor. Having begun his career at Tonic before going his own way, Fanie’s knack for creating refined, contemporary spaces, often with an unexpected element, (cue the brick floor) is what he is becoming known for.
