Design Joburg, produced by Media 10, was the recipient of several highly prestigious prizes at the fourth annual ROAR Awards, the respected awards platform for the exhibition organising industry in Africa. Design Joburg won the highest accolade for ‘Best Trade and Consumer Exhibition’ (under 6000m2) as well as ‘Best Marketing Campaign’ (also in the Under 6000m2 category). In addition, Design Joburg exhibitor Belgotex was honoured in the ‘Best Stand’ category. The awards were held at a glamorous event on 31 January 2020 at the Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand, and are hosted by the Association of African Exhibition Organisers (AAXO).

The ROAR Awards are a platform for talented and dedicated industry professionals on the African continent to celebrate their achievements and to facilitate the creation of opportunities to grow their businesses within the continental exhibition arena.

“We are thrilled to receive top honours and to be recognised by our industry and peers,” says Design Joburg’s Show Director Sandra Barrow. “Getting a fledgling off the ground is never easy, but with the dedication and passion of our entire team, we’ve pulled off an exceptional international-quality design show”.

This year, Design Joburg takes place at the Sandton Convention Centre from 22 to 24 May 2020. The Media 10 team are anticipating yet another award-winning exhibition, showcasing a rich combination of tradition and modernity from South Africa’s design scene.

MORE ABOUT THE SHOW:

Now in its fourth year, Design Joburg is poised to captivate visitors again this May. Hailed as the African continent’s leading annual décor and design focused show, this year will see #DJ20 upping the ante by bringing together a stellar cast of South African, continental and global pioneers and trailblazers of the design world – all under one roof.

Returning to the show are headline sponsors Sanlam Private Wealth along with SA Tourism. Also back are the dynamic creative directors, Philippe van der Merwe and Greg Gamble (of celebrated retailer and interior design studio Tonic), to steer the show’s aesthetic with flair.

Collaboration remains the heart of Design Joburg.  Once again, the CoLab features will see five industry trailblazers tasked with creating evocative roomsets – from bedrooms and bathrooms to home offices and sitting rooms. The concept involves teaming up with local and international brands, offering real take-home inspiration for visitors.

Bringing a level of culinary distinction to this year’s increasingly exciting line-up is celebrated Sowetan-born chef Wandile Mabaso. He will partner with architect, and long-time friend of the show, Jo van Rooyen of JVR Architects, in conceptualising the show’s main restaurant. The Hendrick’s Gin Bar, always a hit with visitors, is back for a third time. A leading local designer will take charge of using the brand’s unique blend of 11 botanicals as visual inspiration.

A further highlight is The Architect’s Gallery, a showcase of some of the country’s most lauded architecture projects, once again curated by leading architecture and design trio SAOTA, ARRCC and Okha. The show’s theatre also returns, completely reimagined and enhanced with talks and displays that will shed light on various topics.

Finally, the Finishes Lane is a new feature focusing on all those final touches that get your interior (and exterior) across the finish line – this will no doubt be an attractive resource for visitors.
