It was a wild place. The site of this monumental structure was natural countryside with neither gas nor electricity – pristine. Just a two-hour drive from the city, this lasting nest for a large family was built close to a lake, forests and animals, taking into account each member’s customs, cultures, communication necessities and hobbies.

With this brief, interior designer Ksenia Stupko (responsible for the entire project and every solution) linked her team with that of architect Roman Babenko, entrusted with the structural design.

The 2 000-square-metre house consists of three blocks. Externally the building is presented as a single whole and, built in the style of a chalet. It succeeds in organically coexisting with the landscape.

The central part of the house is the core of the structure. Here, an indoor swimming pool, winter garden, cinema and games rooms and other reception spaces were designed to each include each family member. The ground floor level connects all three blocks of the house.

The central villa was created in authentic Art Deco style. Shimmer, elegance, and pure materials are a foil for artworks and paintings. From the entrance, there is a Gatsby-like ambiance that’s very apparent.

The floors, all made with Italian supplier SICIS materials, are rendered in a variety of precious, light-coloured marbles; while black highlights the geometric decorations of the iconic Cosmati collection.
Surely, in other types of construction, this would not have the same crucial importance. However, from the initial step, a common thread is evident in permeating the entire project: the surfaces form the background and create a natural continuity within the shell.

The marble staircase is the main element of the hall and features a galvanised stainless steel handrail, with the risers of the steps decorated with a design from the Cosmati patterns. These claddings were used in the dining and living area and in other key areas of the house.

An extension features black lacquered doors and walls are decorated with exceptional paintings depicting mythological scenes. Or in other cases works by famous artists.

Even the bathrooms are entirely in concert with the signature throughout. All are in marble, with geometric motifs, decorations and frames. In one key bathing area, floors are clad in white marble and Vetrite Mirror in ruby red contrast. The effect here is literally stunning.

‘I wanted to create a space where the owners could enjoy art, quality finishes and the beauty of nature. I’m sure that the objects, art and selected natural materials within the interior, allowed us to emphasise the level of culture, in which to raise future generation surrounded by family values. I believe there are no boundaries for such family values. They are wider than style or fashion and I hope I’ve managed to create, not so much an interior but a separate microcosm with its unique atmosphere, which the family will keep, evaluate and inherit,’ says project author, Ksenia Stupko.

The winter garden accesses the swimming pool, decorated in artistic mosaic, which reproduces geranium leaves. It’s a true oasis of serenity with a unique view towards the meadows and woods.
