Steenberg’s luxury boutique hotel has reopened after a major upgrade, revitalising guest experiences in step with global hospitality trends, yet ever mindful of the rich history and profound sense of place of this 17th-century gem.

To accommodate longer staying guests, the rooms and suites of the 24 room Steenberg Hotel & Spa have been redesigned and updated with modern-day comforts. Moreover, new room configurations cater for the increasing number of family groups requiring more interlinking spaces.

“We are experiencing a huge demand for family travel, so we rethought our room configurations and suites, and refined our shared and private spaces so that families who visit us can stay together more comfortably,” says Catherine Schulze, General Manager of Steenberg Hotel & Spa, whose vision of the past six years to give the property a complete makeover in line with global trends has finally come to fruition.

As South Arica’s oldest registered farm, Steenberg has been a bastion of hospitality from its earliest days. Steenberg’s indomitable founder, Catharina Ras, known as Tryn to her nearest and dearest, frequently played host to passengers en route from the winter harbour of Simon’s Town to the growing enclave in Cape Town. The original werf, a Cape Provincial Heritage Site, is still the heart of the hotel today, with manor house and barn rooms stylishly updated within their thick-walled original buildings with high, wide timber ceilings. These generous proportions are echoed in the more contemporary vineyard and mountain facing rooms.

In addition to creating striking two and three-bedroom suites, all the premier rooms have been completely overhauled with redesigned bathrooms and extended patios, ideal for guests who stay for longer periods.

A balance of history and modernity, sophistication and warmth, Steenberg Hotel relives the glory days of the farm but with contemporary interiors with the hallmark of warm hospitality and intuitive and attentive personalised service.

“We want to offer all our guests a bespoke experience that perfectly suits them. Whether they are an extended family enjoying a once in a lifetime adventure together, a young family exploring the world,  a couple or a group of friends on holiday sharing golf days, fine food and wine, and our beautiful peninsula, we want their stay with us to be unforgettable,” says Schulze.

Magical views from every vantage point, be it of the original werf, the outstretched vineyards or the mountain, all complement the tactile luxury of the interior spaces.

“The redesign allows each room to offer an utterly relaxing experience for our guests, with every moment considered,” shares Schulze, whose personal touch is evident down to the finest detail of every individually decorated room.

The new-look can best be described as luxurious yet unfussy, using a neutral palette layered with personally chosen pieces such as a classic chandelier, a brilliant designer chair or the most comfortable sofa on which to sit and chat or curl up with a book.

As part of the hotel redesign, the rejuvenating Steenberg Spa now offers a tranquil outdoor treatment area in a scented garden under a majestic oak tree with the promise of real time-out to reconnect, unwind and relax in the hands of highly skilled therapists.

Inspiring cuisine with an inimitable contemporary spirit at Tryn, Steenberg’s vibrant new signature restaurant, completes the guest experience. Tryn is a refreshed, youthful and stylish space bringing the narrative of Steenberg’s free-spirited founder into the 21st century.

At Steenberg the guest experience is paramount and nothing is left to chance. Everything is curated, hand-chosen and personalised.  Understanding and anticipating the guest’s every need and expectation, and creating a home-away-from-home where guests feel part of the family, is the ultimate Steenberg promise.

“To be at home at Steenberg with your needs anticipated and your stories shared is both restorative and energising. Guided by our personal recommendations, our guests are able to explore all that our beautiful city has to offer, often returning and staying with us for longer on each visit,” Schulze adds.

The deep sense of place experienced by guests makes their stay truly relaxing and invigorating. The warm hosting by a dedicated team, delicious food at Tryn, the tapas at Bistro Sixteen82, the world class golf course, and incredible wine tasting experiences, offer guests a feast of pursuits at this contemporary lifestyle destination in the Constantia Wine Valley.
