PazGersh Architecture + Design is a practising architecture studio with a team of up to five architects and designers. In this issue – which includes our Architecture ’17 Focus – this aesthetically conceived villa in Tel Aviv finds justified space. It was designed in 2015 and is a compact build of just 450 square metres, constructed of concrete.

This practice maintains that architecture is both the process and product of planning, designing and constructing space that reflects functional, social and aesthetic considerations. It requires the manipulation and coordination of material, technology, light and shadow. Architecture also encompasses the pragmatic aspects of realising designed spaces, which includes project planning, cost estimating and construction administration.

In planning this villa, the main design concept was to create an L-shape modern home around a pool and three individual garden areas. The structure was to house a family with children and a prerequisite was that it should include a large master suite.

On the ground floor, an open plan provides public spaces that encompass a kitchen and dining area, library and a living room with access onto the pool area and terrace. Say the architects: ‘By planning the bedrooms in the upper and lower levels of the house, the ground floor becomes a transitional space between the master suite and the lower bedrooms. The plan integrates three Mediterranean garden types, these gardens vary in type and location around the villa.’
