Aman Tokyo is the brand’s first urban property, located in the prestigious financial district of Ōtemachi. Occupying levels 33-38 of the Otemachi Tower, Aman Tokyo presents 84 rooms and suites each with panoramic city views of the Imperial Palace Gardens and surrounding landmarks.

The centerpiece of the lobby, soaring nearly 30 metres high, is a majestic architectural feature resembling the interior of a Japanese paper lantern. This vast expanse measures 40 metres long by 11 metres wide and was created with layers of textured Washi paper and stretched with the Shoji frame; the lantern rises six floors through the centre of the building. During the day, it allows diffused sunlight to illuminate the lobby, while in the evenings the ambiance evolves via a series of orchestrated lighting scenes.

A memorable moment for many of the guests is a swim in the hotel’s black, basalt-lined 30-metre infinity pool, on the 34th floor. From the pool there are views of snowy mountain peaks including Mount Fuji, dark against the sunset, visible in the distance through the double-height wraparound glass walls. The height of the water has been set at precisely the level where the miles of high rise cityscape remains out of view.
